EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION EXPERT AT TANOTO FOUNDATION

Tanoto Foundation (www.tanotofoundati on.org) is a not-for-profit foundation which strives to be a center of excellence for facilitating and improving access to quality education and to empowerment opportunities that contribute to poverty reduction.
The Foundation currently runs a number of philanthropic programs in Indonesia ranging from scholarship, teachers training, school improvement programs,
research support, to small business development. In addition, the Foundation also works with its corporate partners to design quality community development and CSR programs.

Tanoto Foundation is currently looking for Early Childhood Education Expert to be based in Jakarta, with travels of up to 50% to semi-remote parts of Riau, Jambi and North Sumatera. The Expert will be directly in charge of quality and standard improvement of kindergartens, early childhood programs, child centers and daycares (to be loosely referred to as early childhood establishments or the establishments).
While the quality and standard improvement program will target company-owned early
childhood establishments, portions of the program will also need to be applicable for other public- or community-owned early childhood establishments in the surrounding areas.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Education Expert is a mid-level management staff who will oversee the governance, management, quality and standard improvement of private kindergarten schools, early childhood programs, child centers and daycares in North Sumatra, Riau and Jambi. The position will create education baseline profile and provide recommendations for developing standards and quality improvements of the early-childhood establishments, and propose and lead professional development trainings to improve the capacities of the establishments.
Along with Tanoto Foundation in-house Education Experts, the position will facilitate the establishments on development of school management, teaching methods, educational system, accountabilities and improve the involvement of parents and communities in the governance and management of the establishments. The position will also contribute to the on-going Tanoto Foundation's Pelita Pendidikan (Quality School Improvement)Program that target teachers and principals in under-resourced public-or community-owned kindergartens and other early childhood programs in remote parts of the three provinces. The position will develop and lead trainings in early-childhood education and student-centered learning methods for adult learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

* Conduct research and benchmark on best practices in early-childhood establishments, particularly those run privately or independently.

* Develop baseline data of the company-owned kindergartens and primary schools in regards to their educational standards, teaching practices, and human resource capacity.

* With the collaboration of principals and teachers and under supervision and support from the Program Director and other in-house Education Experts, develop proposals to set the vision and mission of the establishments, to improve the educational and management systems and standards of the schools and programs, and to develop the capacities of the human capitals.

* Oversee, facilitate and support schools in the implementation of improvements of educational and management systems and standards of the establishments and improvement programs.

* Propose, develop, lead and run trainings on early childhood development and approaches to child-centered early-childhood education for teachers, principals and parents.

* Prepare proposals, detailed work plans, timelines and budgets for the improvement programs.

* Ensure achievement of program objectives and effective reporting in accordance with Tanoto Foundation's requirements, policies and procedures.

* Manage relationships and communications:

o Coordinate and collaborate with staff members of the companies assigned to oversee the schools.

o Ensure effective communication between the schools, the school committees and the school boards.

o Build beneficial relationships with Dinas Pendidikan and other educational agencies as necessary.

o Communicate issues with Program Director in a timely manner.

* As assigned by Program Director, contribute to capacity building components on early childhood education for Tanoto Foundation's Pelita Pendidikan, a quality improvement program for under-resourced schools in remote parts of North Sumatera, Riau and Jambi.

* Other duties as reasonably assigned by the Tanoto Foundation's Board of Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* University degree or extensive trainings in early-childhood education. Master's degree preferable.

* Demonstrated leadership skills in capacity building and quality improvement of schools.

* Demonstrated skills in developing training modules for teachers, principals and parents and strong facilitation experience

* Demonstrated skills in proposal development and partnership relations.

* Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken Bahasa and passive English.
